Zero Audience Experiment Week 3: Twelve clicks. Pinterest says none.

12 clicks, 0 sales: Week 3 of the Zero Audience Experiment

FOUNDATIONS · WEEK 3 · 26 OCT–1 NOV · MY HOURS: 3

Still $0. Three weeks in: no sale, no free download, no followers.

Week 3 had one job. Give each channel its first soft verdict, and reset the $2,000 target with real numbers. On Friday it nearly had a winner. Then I checked who was clicking.

If you're new here, the rules and the target are in the Week 1 report. One metric, products sold. $2,000 by 25 December. Eight hours a week, max.

1. SALES BY CHANNEL

Running total:
0 sales, $0, 0 email subscribers, 0 Gumroad followers. Three weeks, same line.

2. VIEWS & CLICKS

Diagnostic only. These explain the sales; they don't count as results.

  • TikTok: 5 slideshows, 2,096 views between them (1,625 last week). Best was "8 years remote" with 667. Then: 6 profile views, 0 taps on the bio link.

  • Pinterest: 17 new pins, 8 regular and 9 for the volume test. 264 impressions (216 last week). Gumroad recorded 12 clicks from Pinterest links. Pinterest's own analytics recorded 0 outbound clicks. More on that below.

  • Reddit: 4 comments in job search and remote work threads, still no links. Karma went from 20 to 41.

  • Marketplaces: both listings are still waiting for Notion's review. No new clicks.

  • Gumroad: 0 free gut check downloads, 0 new followers.

TikTok posts still carry the "promoting your own brand" label, so TikTok and Reddit numbers still can't be compared.

3. WHAT I DID

  • TikTok: posted 5 slideshows, about 10 minutes each. All live at lunchtime, except Monday's, which went out from drafts.

  • Pinterest: posted 17 pins in batches. About 70 minutes.

  • Reddit: 4 comments, about 10 minutes each. Scrolling for threads still isn't counted. Most of it happens over lunch, and calling lunch work would be generous.

4. OFF PLAN, AND ONE SURPRISE

  • Clicks I can't vouch for. By Friday, Gumroad showed 13 Pinterest clicks in total, the only channel with any. I'd nearly called Pinterest the winner. But Pinterest's own analytics show 0 outbound clicks for the same week, on every board. And Gumroad itself logged only 5 product page views. So at least 7 of the 12 clicks never reached a page. Link checkers, including Pinterest's own when a pin is published or edited, can show up as clicks. At most 5 were people, and one of them may well have been me, checking my own links. Three tools, three answers. None of it counts.

  • The ask got a look, not a tap. Week 2's guess was that the TikToks gave nobody a reason to leave. So every post got one: a free 5-minute gut check for relocation, the $19 founding price for job search. Profile views went from 3 to 6. Bio link taps stayed at 0.

  • The second AI didn't work out. I tried handing the post images to a second AI tool to save time. It redrew the product screenshots instead of using them. A template ad that doesn't show the real template is a problem, so Claude went back to making the images.

5. WHAT IT SHOWS, AND WHAT I THINK

Evidence: 0 sales, $0. 2,096 TikTok views, 6 profile views, 0 bio taps. 264 Pinterest impressions; 0 outbound clicks by Pinterest's count, 12 by Gumroad's, 5 Gumroad page views. 0 free downloads. About 3 hours logged, 9 in total.

Interpretation: the soft verdict is no verdict. No channel has sent a person I can verify to a product page. TikTok gets the views and keeps them. Pinterest grows slowly, which is normal for Pinterest. Reddit has been building trust it isn't allowed to spend until this week.

Now the reset. Take the generous reading: 12 real clicks a week, and 2% of them buying (my assumption, not a measured rate). That's about two sales by 25 December. At founding prices, under $50. The $2,000 stays on the scoreboard, because it's the bar I set on Day 1. My honest forecast is now under $50.

One more thing the numbers say. The founding-price emails go out this week, to a list of zero. The free gut check was meant to build that list. Nobody downloaded it.

6. NEXT WEEK

  • First money spent: $50 on a Pinterest ad for the free gut check, from 3 November. A test of whether paid reach does what free reach hasn't.

  • Founding price ends 11 November ($19 to $29). The posts will say so.

  • Reddit links start: at most 1 comment in 10.

  • The click question: from now on, a click counts only if Pinterest and Gumroad both see it.

  • TikTok on notice: if the bio link is still on 0 at the 8 November snapshot, TikTok drops to 3–4 posts a week.

So, my question this week: have you ever bought something from an account with one follower? What made you do it?
